- How does D&D Online make money?
I think it is amazing to grab on to the gaming culture in the student body. While a large majority are not specifically playing fantasy mmo’s (i.e. D&D Online and World of Warcraft), the rise of gaming on cell phones and consoles has made almost every student a gamer of some sort. While I am not a fan of “gamification” of all things (i.e. answer ten questions and get a digital medal), I think the gaming industry has an amazing idea of how to motivate people to keep going forward. We need to pay attention to this in education and figure out where/how we can use it. Ultimately making learning fun and relevant is the key to motivation, and what better way to make it relevant to student than to use a current video game.
D&D Online makes money by having just enough cool stuff available for free to hook you, and then offering even more cool stuff for a little bit of money and even MORE cool stuff for a $100/year subscription…
I had no idea. My gaming goes only as deep as dual casting “flame” in Skyrim.
